Prosecutors are calling a hit-and-run that killed a 21-year-old woman in Millville last month a homicide.
The victim, Caroline Bump, 21, of Millville, was found dead on Glenside Road by a passerby in the early morning hours of Oct. 23, the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office said. Authorities believe she was struck about two hours before her body was discovered, around 11:15 p.m. on Oct. 22.
On Thursday, detectives arrested 22-year-old Breanna Rowley of Vineland. She is charged with homicide, vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, weapons offenses and obstructing the administration of law.
Authorities allege that the two women knew each other and were together before Bump’s death occurred. As Bump was standing in the street, Rowley struck her with a vehicle at a high rate of speed before fleeing the area, prosecutors allege.
Rowley is also accused of attempting to cover up the damage that the crash caused to her car, officials said.
She was previously charged with obstructing the administration of law, hindering apprehension and tampering with evidence in Salem County on Oct. 25.
Rowley is in custody at Salem County Jail pending a detention hearing.
